Edge of the Id is the latest duo exhibition by Phillipa Butters and Paul Williams. Their art practices share intensities of abstraction and spontaneity in depicting the hidden signs within landscape and human forms. Butters’ works incorporate recurring abstract symbols to characterise fossil markings. By relating evolutionary history of the land to human journeys, Butters traces the impacts of markings on shaping individual consciousness. Recasting is the latest solo exhibition by Brandt Lewis who further develops the themes of staging and narrative from his 2017 show at Thienny Lee Gallery, Staging Stills. Lewis continues his format of still-life painting to present a variety of stories incorporating manikins and toy animals.
