—Opening Reception: 6-8pm, Thursday 29 November—
The Vault of Asia 2019 exhibition hosts a wide range of artworks celebrating Asian heritage, presenting twentieth-century Buddhist sculptures and recent collections from modern-day artists including Dapeng Liu (Archibald Prize Finalist), Sung Hee Ahn, Wayan Kun Adnyana and others. Liu explores the Chinese and Western approaches to art in the development of his own distinctive style that blends the essence of both traditions, evidenced in his series of figurative and landscape works. Through her reflective paintings, Ahn conveys the symbolic Australian landscape from a Korean perspective. This exhibition also sees the return of Wayan Kun Adnyana’s contemporary narrative painting of ancient Balinese traditions.
This exhibition will be opened by Jackie Menzies OAM, Emeritus Curator of Asian Art, Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) and President of The Asian Arts Society of Australia (TAASA).
