Storyfeast by Josh Butler
18 October, 2018 - 1 November, 2018
—Opening Reception: 6-8pm, 18 October—-
The world contains a multitude of stories. We delight in them, treasuring those closest to our hearts. Storyfeast invites viewers to revel in the personal narratives of Butler’s Australian homeland. As his first solo exhibition, the series fuses the visual elements of Art Nouveau and Medieval stained-glass imagery to create an indulgent feast for the senses. His unique style is grounded in rich texture, composing his enchanting flora and fauna through materials including wooden panel and gold leaf. Butler’s playful figures captivate our attention, evoking a childlike sense of wonder in one’s own earthly experiences. He engages with notions of spirituality in his practice to draw forth universal stories of love, sorrow, comfort and hope.
“Growing up on a hundred-and-fifty-acre dairy farm in country NSW, nature was everything to me. It still is. It’s where all the stories begin. It’s my sanctuary, my memories – where I truly feel rest and belonging.” – Josh Butler
The exhibition will be opened by Paul White, Assistant Minister of Church Hill Anglican Church.
