Ravaged Land by Leonie Robison
15 October, 2020 - 3 November, 2020

The abstract depictions of birds within desolate and degraded landscapes reveals the stark beauty of representation in Ravaged Land. The latest exhibition from Leonie Robison is a thought-provoking rendition of what is, what was and what might be in the environmental battle currently occurring in Australia. The series of mixed media works focuses on endangered native Australian birds and highlights the bushfire-damaged environment, acknowledging the losses we have already sustained, the diversity we continue to lose, and our grim future if we do not take action.
“Colourful parrots flashing through the trees, the morning chorus of a songbird, a day of trekking through pristine forest; these we enjoy, these are what we stand to lose. What is the cost of our comfortable lifestyle? Where do we draw the line between comfort and sustainability? What relative value do we give to humans and the other species, both animal and plant, with whom we share this planet?” – Leonie Robison
