Inaugural Exhibition: Beauty and Myth of Southeast Asia
2 March, 2017 - 28 March, 2017

Thienny Lee Gallery is delighted to bring together the works of three prominent artists: Jumaadi (Courtesy of Watters Gallery, Sydney), Phaptawan Suwannakudt and Ron Galimam originally from Indonesia, Thailand and Sabah (East Malaysia) respectively, for our inaugural exhibition, ‘Beauty and Myth of Southeast Asia’.
It is an honour to have Jumaadi and Phaptawan Suwannakudt to participate in this exhibition. Phaptawan will show her series ‘Reincarnation of the Butterflies’ on wood panels, while Jumaadi exhibits his ‘Beast Series’ of modern ‘wayang kulit’ (shadow puppets), cut from buffalo hide. It is with great excitement that we introduce Sydney gallery goers to Ron Galimam on his debut Australian show, featuring his ‘Sipadan Series’ executed in acrylic and wax on cloth, his modern interpretation of batik.
The inaugural exhibition will be opened by Professor Adrian Vickers, Professor of Southeast Asian Studies, Director of Asian Studies Program, University of Sydney.
