—Opening Reception: 6-8pm, 1 February—
Naomi Charles skilfully uses opaque colours to express her work’s thematic content with a sense of freedom and confidence in her abstract and semi-abstract works. Her comfortable use of colour creates visually arresting shapes that undulate, drip or appear in blocks over paper, canvas and linen. Naomi’s primary objective as an artist is to achieve this harmony through colour and to deliver a stimulating visual experience for the spectator. Naomi’s exploration of the imagination and of tint and tone has resulted in the creation of these polychromatic and enigmatic works.
“I approach my work with a ‘design eye’. I think of a theme that inspires me through music, art and modern culture. My works are individually inspired and evoke a strong sense of optimism – colour is key. Spectators have an optimistic reaction to my work. I’ve heard them say it evokes feelings of happiness. This gives me great pleasure as I know they’ve connected with my work. Although I find inspiration in various themes, colour always guides me – and I listen…” – Naomi Charles
