Karta’s Legacy by Yvonne Levenston

10 August, 2017 - 29 August, 2017

  • « Dis\Harmony by Carol Barroso, Gabby Malpas, Mai Nguyen-Long and Sue Soliman
  • Places In The Sun by Erika Beck FRAS »
Next move acrylic, charcoal, pencil & wax pastels on canvas 76 x 76cm

— Opening reception: 6-8 pm, 10th August —

Yvonne Levenston’s years of research, viewing and drawing primates around the world is reflected in her works. Her passion for endangered species is particularly evident in this exhibition that focuses on Orangutans (IUCN Red List), coinciding with International Orangutan Day. Constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional techniques, Yvonne achieves a unique and individual narrative in this series of works where she explores and engages evolution of the Orangutan.

“Man and animal living side by side competing for spaces and resources is unfortunately the biggest threat to wildlife. My hopes are lifted when I meet tenacious environmentalists, Dr. Jane Goodall and primate guardian extraordinaire, Louise Grossfeldt. This exhibition is a dedication to these strong-minded women and a very special Sumatran Orangutan, Karta, who lost her life while giving birth in Adelaide Zoo recently.” — Yvonne Levenston

10% of the total sales (equally from the gallery and the artist) will be donated to support The Orangutan Project, through Adelaide Zoo. The funds raised will help cover costs of rangers’ patrols from Karta’s Legacy guard post to protect the Orangutan in Bukit Tigapuluh National Park, Sumatra.

The Exhibition will be opened by Louise Grossfeldt, Vice President of Bornean Orangutan Survival and Manager of Life Sciences, Mogo Zoo.
