Flora Abunda Australis II by Ishbel Morag Miller
29 July - 17 August

—Opening 29 July Saturday, 3-5pm—
Award-winning artist Ishbel Morag Miller continues her passion for painting still life in Flora Abunda Australis II, which she devotes to Australia’s magnificent flora and fauna. Australian natives such as proteas, banksias and eucalypts are recurring subjects throughout her work, that are carefully selected and arranged in translucent glass vases against a lavish draped backdrop. This arrangement creates a delightful play of light, colour, shapes, and shadows that cast within and beyond the glass vases. Morag’s ingenious detailed response to light and objects is a unifying element across her collection of works, creating a whimsical and lyrical atmosphere. A bouquet of flowers through the artist’s precise composition becomes an intimate portrait, with a sense of personae and profound stillness.
“I chose to portray native plants in my works to showcase their beauty and show off what an amazing country we live in, with its unique vegetation and the fact that they were cut and put together with renew personalities amazes and inspires my work” — Ishbel Morag Miller
To be opened by Brandt Lewis, accomplished visual artist and veteran art instructor.
