—Opening Reception: 6-8pm, 21 September—
Slovakian born artist, Katarina Timkova started painting at an early age having grown up in an artistic family where both parents are practising artists. Educated and trained in art in Slovakia and Australia, this solo exhibition is an outcome of Katarina’s life changing experience from a critical illness that has had an enormous impact on her outlook on life and ultimately her art practice. The collection of her works in this exhibition echoes a combination of surreal backdrops and genuine emotions.
“I like to spend a long time on my works, often leaving them unfinished, only to return to find them in different lights in completion. The inspirations of the paintings in this exhibition were drawn from many sources including folk tales, fairy tales, mythologies, legends, nature, movies, photographs, dreams, meditations, travels, books, poetry and music which stories deeply resonate with my own personal experiences.” – Katarina Timkova
