—Artist will be present on Saturday 5Th of September, 2-4pm—
In An Australian Accent, artist Tracey Esteves references Australian society, history and iconography by exploring the varying relationships between popular culture and fine art. Her body of work appropriates, produces and intermingles images from popular Australian culture which merge high and low art, and explore colour and shape. Esteves’ artwork captures the viewer by providing a sense of familiarity and enchantment within her Australian inspired works.
“I have a preoccupation with the formal elements of surface, space, pattern, and colour, and an intellectual interest in exploring place, narrative and identity. My artwork reflects elements of pop art, of post-modern appropriation, of formalism, and an appreciation of texture, line, colour and shape.” – Tracey Esteves
Artist Tracey Esteves and Gallery Director Thienny Lee spoke to Paula Towers on Arts Thursday Eastside Radio 89.7FM about the show on August 20. If you missed the program you can still listen to it by going to Arts Thursday Eastside Radio and clicking on the date 20 August 2020.
