Yvonne Steinberg
Biography
Born and raised in Sydney, Yvonne Steinberg is a Sydney based artist. Steinberg was motivated to be creative at a young age, drawing on the lounge-room wall with her mum’s lipstick when she was 3. Her formal artistic training began when she was 12, being mentored by the late, great Professor Maxmillian Feurring, as his youngest ever student. Her first exhibition entry occurred when she was 13 and she was delighted to receive a certificate for 4 watercolour still life submissions to an exhibition in Canberra.
Now, with renewed commitment to art, creative endeavour is part of her daily schedule. She loves playing with colour, finding it hypnotic when her paint brush or palette knife, tipped in paint or ink, connects with the paper, wood or canvas for the first time. Both her landscapes and still life are highly colourful and mostly alla prima. Living in the area near water, she has been taken by boats and harbour images. Her work is about the creative endeavour of incorporating what is real with that of the imaginative.
Artist Statement
Simply put, my world of artistic vision is directed by unconscious drivers and the call to explore. The results are intellectually and emotively mood-driven. And while I may start with a specific focus, more often than not, my hand develops its own Life Force as it is led by line, movement and/or colour. Being a grounded and fulfilled person that has many dimensions allows me to express the multiplicity of who I am via artistic expression.
